Story of Abhishek R | SBI PO 2021 Topper | ICD Kollam

sbi po topper

On today’s Topper Talks blog, we are about to hear the story of an aspirant who was unable to crack the prelims exams, but with the right guidance, he was able to clear all three phases in one go.  He is currently working as an SBI PO. Let’s hear his success story in his own words-

“I am Abhishek R, from Kerala. I graduated with a BTech degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kerala Technological University. My father is a retired government servant from Kerala State Electricity Board and my mother is working as a lab technician in Government Medical College.

After my completion of graduation in 2019, I gave myself a month to think and analyze in which direction I should proceed- PSC, SSC, or bank exams. I found out that the bank exam was a bit easier to achieve as there was not much time between the notification published and the exam date. I attempted the IBPS PO exam in 2019, but I was not able to clear that because I was not clear about the syllabus and the exam pattern.

Then I decided to take coaching on banking and searched for the same on the web. The best available coaching center related to bank exams in Kerala is ICD Kollam. I contacted ICD Kollam and enrolled in a six-month course. Following the conventional method, cracking the banking exam is not easy. In ICD Kollam, the students are taught all the shortcut tips and tricks to complete the given questions within the set time. We will be able to solve each question in 20 to 30 seconds.

The mock test provided by the ICD Kollam in its lab sessions also helped me a lot in clearing the bank exams. Mock tests are very similar to the actual exam. By attempting the mock test we can analyze our results and find out our weaknesses and strong points.

ICD Kollam’s ‘Udyog Seva‘ app provides live classes, notes, and mock tests. For one year I had been attempting the mock tests available in the app. After not being able to clear 7 exams, I finally cleared the SBI PO prelims and took a 2-week course for the mains exam provided by ICD Kollam. After qualifying for the mains exam I went for a three-day class for the interview. It helped increase my confidence and cleared all my doubts regarding the interview. According to me, banking with engineering is a good combination. This is because in engineering there are many projects which help instill the managerial and leadership qualities required. The same qualities prove to be very useful for me in the banking interview.

Banking is a very respected job in societ. That also motivated me to pursue a career in the banking industry. I was not even clear about the basic Bank topics before coming to ICD Kollam. ICD Kollam helped me in getting knowledge about all the bank-related topics and questions. Each day, apart from the 4-hour class a mock test was held in ICD Kollam. This helps analyze our weaknesses and strength in every topic.

In the banking exam what matters most to qualify the exam is the concept. For the prelims examination, speed matters and one needs to practice as many more tests as possible to crack the exam. ICD Kollam conducts mock tests every day.

My prelims strategy during the exam was to give one minute to each section to go through the question. Getting to know the types of questions helps to increase the attempt in the exam. This strategy helped me to attempt around 72 questions and clear the prelims.

Regarding the mains exam, it is not about the speed it is about the accuracy. The general awareness section and the English section is the most scoring section of all. Focusing on these two sections helps reduce the toughness of the mains exam by 75%. The quantitative aptitude and reasoning section is a bit on the tougher side. There is very little time left between the prelims result and the mains examination so one should focus on the mains examination from the beginning itself.

ICD Kollam provided a 14-day training course so that I could get a better idea about the topics asked in the exam. I was given daily current affairs materials in both the class and lab sessions. It is best to keep track of the general awareness section in a regular way which would help retain the information till the exam.

My weakness was in the English subject. ICD Kollam’s ‘word of the day’ program helped me to increase my vocabulary, along with the antonyms and synonyms.

After qualifying the mains, I attempted a mock interview in ICD Kollam. In the interview class, all the topics related to banking were discussed, which gave me the confidence to appear before the panel.

ICD Kollam helped reshape my preparation in the right manner.”

Thank You ICD.
